Personal Trainers Leverage Their Time For More Freedom
All business owners must struggle with time management. As a personal trainer with a business, you also have to plan around the busy days of your clients. Many of us may have different approaches to scheduling time, but only a few really know an efficient way to tackle time management.
Lists are often the way people work. Some are obliged to do it. We know that at 8:15 a.m. we have a meeting, followed by clients at intervals from 8:30 until noon; an hour for lunch, then afternoon activities broken down until 5 pm.. Back at the homestead there are other lists waiting.
That’s a schedule. It is not a very effective leverage of your time.
Leveraging means balancing. It’s important to have a healthy balance of your time.
If you want more balance in your life you’ll need to pause and figure out where you stand. Discern which stage you are currently in.
Keep a journal for a few days to a week. At the end of the time period, look to see how much time you spent with family.
-
Did you spend time doing a hobby or something else you really enjoyed?
-
What kind of books or magazines did you read?
-
How much exercise were you able to do?
-
Did you read anything during the trial period?
-
If so, was it for work or for enjoyment?
-
Did you spend time in any personal goals or endeavors, and if so, how much?
If you’re stuck on a typical “to do” list schedule, chances are you’ll see that your time is imbalanced in some of these areas. Figure out how much time you spent on what. How much time did you spend for career, family, personal growth, reading and other interests? Take note of the percentages. What percent of your time was spent on work versus family and other areas important to you? The results could surprise you!
This little journaling project gives you a chance to look at how you live your life and then choose how to change. Dedicate time for each aspect of your life like personal goals and interests, work, family, etc.
When you leverage your time and deliberately choose how to spend it, you’re no longer a slave to the lists! Your “to do” list is a great way to remind you of duties, but it shouldn’t take you away from the life you should be enjoying.
